Sicily Combat # 1

You and a wingman are on patrol at 6,000 metres, providing air cover for the Allied soldiers on the ground. Suddenly below you and to your left you see two Ju88 two engine bombers at 4,500 metres headed towards our troops. At almost the same time your wingman radios you that he sees three Bf 109 escort fighters at 5,000 metres in front of you. Neither the bombers nor the fighters have noticed you.

What should you do?

A. Go after the fighters first. Dive down from the rear and try to hit at least two. Hopefully that will scare off the third and you can attack the bombers more easily.

B. Go after the bombers. They are the greater danger to your ground troops. Dive fast, open fire with your cannons and you can damage or destroy both planes before the fighter see you. Then run fast and low to escape.

C. Spilt up, you go after the bombers, your wingman will keep the fighters busy.
